missed live performance you'll never see

I was recently listening to a CD of 'rare' live tracks of a now defunct band (Jellyfish) and thinking how sad it will be to never see them play a live show... then that made me think of other bands I'll never get to see play live, like: Alice in Chains with Staley would be one. Morphine is another dead singer band that i'll never get to see either which is a shame cause the ultra-low sax playing might have sounded amazing live cranked so loud. (youtube audio stinks!)

so, are there any performers that you wish you could have seen play live, but most likely will not ever be able to now (for whatever reason?) I'm not really looking for bands that were fairly impossible for you to see like the Beatles (since they quit playing live before some of us were born) but more the bands that you should have seen but never did and now it's too late.

Stevie Ray Vaughn - I wasn't into blues when he died but only came to appreciate his playing style later.

Randy Rhoads - The reason I started playing guitar. He died when I was 10 so this falls more in the "fairly impossible" category.

Metallica - They've been dead to me since the black album. A guitar hero commercial...really?!? (I actually saw them twice prior to their commercial sellout)

The Beatles - Ok, ok, so this is more than fairly impossible but if Lennon didn't die perhaps they would have reunited like the Eagles and did a reunion tour or something. The ticket price would have most assuredly been fairly impossible.

Elvis Presley - Ok, I was 5 when he died so yeah it's fairly impossible. In addition I don't want to see any Elvis after the '68 comeback special which would put me at -4 years old. Not theortically impossible, just have to find that time hopping island in the south pacific ;-D

Could have realistically seen but didn't

Stone Temple Pilots (although I hear they are back together)- I don't remember the story behind this but I know I missed going to see them in Indy. I am not a huge STP fan but I really liked the bassist and it was also the tour for the Purple album (which I owned and really liked).

Hum - It's not my greatest regret that I haven't but I do wish I would have seen them circa You Prefer an Astronaut.

Eric Clapton - He says he is retired now. I could have seen him when he was on his From the Cradle tour back when he was still playing his older Cream, 70's and 80's songs. Now he is mostly playing obscure blues songs and charging a million dollars.

U2 - I wish I saw them back when I liked their stuff. Now I can but I don't really wanna.

John Lee Hooker - By the time I really got into his music he was already really old and had one foot firmly planted in the grave.

Couldn't have realistically seen but wanted to

The Beatles - duh. Mostly just to say I saw them. I think their studio stuff is great for me.

Jimi Hendrix - Only if I was in the front row and I could watch him play. I don't see the point of going to a Hendrix concert and sitting in the nosebleeds.

Young David Lee Roth Van Halen days - I believe Van Halen came to Fort Wayne with Sammy Hagar and I had no drive to see that version of VH.

All in all I have mostly seen my favorite bands in concert. Partly because I don't like many bands enough to want see them in concert.

Metallica IS dead. "Hey our career is ending. Let's make guitar hip and cool for EVERYONE with COLORED BUTTONSZZS!!!!11!!!"

Unfortunately their albums began sucking around the time I was born, so they don't qualify.

At the Drive-In - Great stage presence. Cedric Bixler-Zalalvalahha (whatever) sings awesome for as much as he moves around, and Omar's guitar work was truly unique. But, they've been broken up since like '05 or something. Mars Volta is OK, but I would much have preferred ATDI.

Cave In - SO GOOD. I've ranted about them before. But. They're on hiatus. Gay.

Toad the Wet Sprocket - I'm sure we're all familiar.

Hopesfall - Because Jay Forrest is brain-fried beyond belief for the entire show, but still is somehow able to perform. They just broke up last year.

Radiohead - From videos I've seen, and outside opinions, they put on an AWESOME show. Lights, sound, effects, etc. Lots of energy. I'm not a fan of their last albums, though. I kinda stopped listening after OK Computer.

And, if time travel was available:

I would go see Limp Bizkit at the start of their career.

To murder Fred Durst, and spare the world.

Lol. Please do! I'll even throw in some money for you to buy a Delorean on Ebay and make this happen.

Also Toad is playing in Ann Arbor, MI May 4. Not sure how badly you wanted to see them. There is still hope.

Alice In Chains-Just to see them to prefore "love hate love" would have been majic.

I agree with John about David lee roth & VH...what can you say!!!

the guess who-there isn't a song that i hear from them that I dislike.

Billy Joel- I grew up on "glass houses" and "nylon curtin" his song writing and stage presence is what i what to see.
