Poll: popular music genres
please check out this month's poll and if you would like more info on any of the genres and the hundreds of sub-genres you can find some information here and here. Many of them are quite funny sounding and just beg to be commented on so here's your chance to crack on ridiculous styles of music!

queercore!?!? isn't Seth in a band like that? heh heh. ...and how can straight-edge be related to queercore?
I think the sub-genre thing is starting to get a bit out of control. Do we really need 10,000 different names to categorize music?
no kidding!
i loose count of genres.
It was also interesting to see how Wiki classified different bands....for example:
Metallica = Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Hard Rock, Speed Metal and of course Bob Rock =)
U2 = Rock, Post-Punk, Alternative Rock and "Bono, the face of Fusion Philanthropy Rock" :-D
the only real reason to have so many genres that I can see is for when you wanna sort your music on your PC or do a random play of certain styles of music, i guess. otherwise it just seems to be a way for music reviewers/labels to try to make new bands sound more interesting to the young'ins instead of just calling it all what it is: ROCK. ;-)
yeah think about the seventies and eighties bands. they were rock, country, disco, new wave, or r&b...rock though had all differnt types of sounds. today if some of those bands were around what would you classified them now? like the police....or maybe some better example..
According to wikipedia, The Police are: Rock, Post-Punk, Reggae, New Wave.
Reggae???
yeah Reggae???? though their song "walking on the moon" is sorta that way.
There is definitely a strong reggae influence in their music, even though they didn't play "reggae" music. Some of it shows directly like: "So Lonely," "Walking on the Moon" or "Bring on the Night." Many other songs fuse a reggae feel with other rhythms and styles. That's one thing I love about their music, it's a really unique fusion of lots of styles.
