I will go a step further. Anyone who is interested I will send a mixed "tape" of my favorite new bands for you to enjoy. With all that information you're asking with it. I will only put a couple of songs from each band just in case you want to buy the album.
I have a cd I love to call my" mood" music Its by Jets to Brazil called Perfecting lonliness. The lyrics are what keep me listening . the writer is honest about his imperfections almost to a -I hate myself-way. but, its not too depressing .he doesn't dwell on it its like a matter of fact . if that makes any sensce?!!. favorit song is called " lucky Charm". its about a relationship he's messing up and knows it. heres the line that i love in it."i'm going to make a record so i never forget what it was i recked"heres the rest.http://www.plyrics.com/lyrics/jetstobrazil/luckycharm.html read and enjoy.
johnny, i'll check out your mix tape, but just so you know, i expect you to 'put out' on our first date ;-P
i'll check it out, but it'd be nice if you still post some suggestions here too for our 'non-gay' readers to enjoy.
Lol. Nice. Somehow, I knew you'd say that! Anyway, it's would to take more than burning some songs on a CD buddy.
Suggestions:
I think I already mentioned Kings of Leon's "Only by the Night". I think the bass and drums are pretty good thing to hone in on.
I also like Spoon's "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga". They are kind of hard to categorize as "they sound like x" though. I would say they are a fun band. Very upbeat and light. My favorite tracks off that album are The Underdog and Don't You Evah.
I love all things Wheat. I think a good album to start with is "Per Second, Per Second, Per Second...Every Second". I love "Go Get the Cops" on that album. They aren't a band where you will go "wow that guitarist really ripped that solo"! They are very understated but I think they make really good songs to sit and think. First impression is that they sound a bit like Jets to Brazil. Um...things to listen for: #1 Lyrics. They are pretty good at telling a story. #2 how the rhythm and lead place off each other is interesting. Also the album "Hope and Adams" is good too I like "San Diego" Lyrics.
The Black Keys' "Attack and Release" is another one of my favorites (favorite tracks: "I Got Mine", "Strange Times" and "Psychotic Girl"). They are a pretty straight forward blues-rock band. They like their riffs so again the guitar is not doing any type of callastenics. They are only a two piece band which is cool.
The dude from Huffamoose has a new band called O.L.D. that I blindly bought cause I love Huffamoose. It is pretty good except he lets a curse word or two fly out so...nevermind.
Alright... first off... is it 'mix' tape, or 'mixed' tape?
Second off: I'ma gonna suggest Donny Hathaway, These Songs For You, Live!.
Old school grooves... nothing fancy. It's music's answer to a ham'n'beans supper. You wouldn't serve it in a fashionable restaurant--but it is very tasty and familiar. And every once and a while... you simply gotta have some.
Particularly tasty bites are "Little Ghetto Boy" and "Strugglin'". The melt-in-your-mouth corn bread in the bowl is Donny's cover of "Jealous Guy".
Also makes ya toot.
Although this band is currently defunct and many of you already have mentioned them, I gotta recommend the band Karate (thanks to Mitch and Reed for turning me on to them!)
Just three guys, Karate combines meloncholy singing and lyrics with searing solos and jazz inspired chords. Listen for cool chords, solos using interesting scales, and excellent bass and drum work.
I have uploaded theer entire live album 595 to the dropbox click (here) This is a recording of their 595th live performance. I recommend the song Sever (Track 07) as a good starting point but feel free to download the whole EP and burn it to listen in it's entireity!
MUTEMATH has just released their second album and from what I've heard so far it's quite interesting. They are not afraid to experiment but they always keep the important aspects of a good song in mind so as not to get too far from being enjoyable. Videos of their live performances are quite fun and I can't wait to go see them live at the House of Blues in Chicago in Oct!
You can hear 5 songs from their new album here
Even better, you can download 3 full tracks for your mp3 collection from our dropbox here
Thrice - Beggars
Thrice brings a different sound to each album, and this newest one is pretty interesting.
